We all know the best and easiest way to keep our teeth clean and our mouth fresh. It’s called regular toothbrushing. But some of us are too lazy to follow a strict routine, others just eat more than they brush, and others still are just genetically predisposed to getting rotten teeth. But before that happens – tartar strikes.
But wait, there are additional ways in which you can keep your mouth healthy, and teeth clean, before resorting to that desperate visit to the dentist. Thanks to Tapoos, we’re bringing you some very simple hacks to help you deal with tartar (or also known as teeth plaque). Those plaques are basically deposits of calcium and phosphates, which harden and turn yellow as they accumulate through time.
But tartar is even more sinister because it is like an area of fertile soil on which bacteria can make love. And procreate. And you don’t want that. So here’s how to avoid it.
1. Baking soda is your friend
Here’s how to do some serious spring cleaning of your mouth. Here is what you’ll need: half a tablespoon of salt, half a tablespoon of baking soda, some hydrogen peroxide, a toothpick, half a cup of warm water and finally, some antiseptic mouthwash.
First, pour half a tablespoon of salt and baking soda in half a cup of warm water, and stir until the salt gets dissolved. Then, pour the liquid into your mouth, move it around a bit and spit it out. Remember, don’t swallow. Once you have done this then add some hydrogen peroxide to another half cup of water and rinse your mouth again. What this does is soften and loosen the dental plaque on your teeth.
Now, take a toothpick and start removing the plaque – they should be soft enough for you to do so. Finally, rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash.
2. The strawberry and lemon method
You need half a strawberry or half of a lemon’s peel. Take whichever fruit you want and gently press it against the affected teeth. Hold for about 10 minutes, which is about enough time for the acids in the fruits to dissolve the tartar. Finally, you can just brush your teeth to clean away any crumbs.
3. Baking powder
Mix it well with some water, until it becomes a uniform paste. Then, apply it over your teeth with your fingers. Baking powder has a lot of things in it, and one of them is sodium bicarbonate, which will melt the dental plaque.
4. Cleaning teeth plaque with a tea tree oil solution
Pour two drops of tea tree oil in a cup of water, and use it to clean your teeth. But remember – no swallowing!
